I purchased this guitar new in 1998 after getting rid of most of my other gear about two years earlier (a decision I'm still kicking myself for). I think I got a pretty good deal on this guitar becasue it had a slight flaw in the finish on the headstock. I enjoy listening to and playing (or, more accrately, attempting to play) a wide variety of music, but play mainly classic rock and blues. Since it's the only steel string guitar I own right now, just about anything I play gets played on this instrument (I'm shopping for an electric). This guitar suits me well and sounds very nice for its price range. I agree with the previous reviewer's comments regarding bass sounds. I've made a few "scratch pad" recordings with it and was surprised, however, by how good it sounded. Obviously it doesn't sound as good as a top of the line acoustic, but it compared pretty favorably in the store with some guitars costing twice as much. All in all a very good (though not particularly rich) sound for the money. Much better than some of the garbage that's in the same price range. Considering how much "ratings inflation" there seems to be in these reviews, a "7" might seem harsh — I think it's a pretty fair rating, though.

1998 (I think) model, 20 frets, ash top and sides, transparent red finish, Grover tuners

I was very impressed with the action on this guitar. I found it to be fairly low and very playable without any buzzing. The intonation was good. I don't really know much about Grover tuners, but this guitar stays in tune much better than some other guitars I've owned. Although I usually prefer a more natural looking finish on an acoustic guitar, I'm pleased with the transparent red finish. It looks good and doesn't show any signs of aging. I have no complaints with the hardware — it's been very solid so far. The only "problem" area is the previously mentioned headstock finish flaw, but it's hardly noticeable.

Never needed it.

sounds great for the price i was looking for a beginner acoustic and by george i think i found it! i play mostly metal and rock and roll this guitar sound good playing allmans, ccr, skynard, etc…

only one problem the 13th fret on the high e string buzzes can't figure out why never had it looked into but rarely play that high up anyway

1999??? 20 frets antique natural finish (very nice) your basic dreadnought acoustic guitar grover tuners came with gig bag. paid $289.00 for it

i pulled it off the wall and started playing it for less than 300 bucks you would be hard pressed to find something better no flaws i could find.

never called them

maybe a one year warranty? cant remember

Martin DX1 Tawny Satinwood Acoustic Guitar

I currently have an inexpensive Blueridge acoustic, which has been very good for a number of years and a nice guitar. I was looking for something with more sound and richer tones. I was looking at Taylors, but the price was more than I wanted to spend. I started looking at Martins, and the first time I picked up this guitar, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. The tone is just incredible and it has a very unique look. It was great right out of the box with no adjustments necessary, and a very easy and fast play. It booms across the room. It is constructed in Mexico and the workmanship is wonderful. The natural stratabond they use for the neck gives this guitar an unusual look. I don't know how they developed this tone, but for the price it can't be beat.

This is the first Martin I've owned. The guitar is an eyecatcher with it's beautiful inlays and satinwood sides and back. It plays very easily right out of the box and has a tone and presence that rivals my Ovation Elite. It is an exceptional guitar for the money!
