"Great, but with a little help"

I started looking for a tube amp because of the sterility of solid states. This does it very well, it is plenty loud for small gigs but it is not such a monster that I can't play it in my shop with out the neighbors or wife complaining.

Even with the other $50.00 spent on the tube tamer and the vox switch this is a great deal. Real, full tube sound for $650 brand new, good luck beating that.

I got this used, it is three years old and the guy I bought it from gigged heavily with it the whole time. He sold it because it kept destroying tubes from the rattle. With that problem fixed every things still works perfectly.

great tone , BUT

I heard alot of good about this amp so I had to try one out. Went to local music store and loved the tone. I bought it and in 6 months it started making some strange noise's. A PEAVEY tech told me I had to replace the tubes. So I did. Now, 1 year later it just quit working. I had a tech look at it and it turned out it had burned a fuse inside the transformer. He fixed, tested all tubes(good), and sent it home to me. I played 3 nights in some clubs and now its making all those noises again.
I have had it with this amp, totally disgusted and I am junking it.

Dollar for Dollar

This thing has a lotta guts and brass balls. It is heavey and isn't the easiest thing to lug around, but the tone is worth it. This amp is the best sounding tube amp for the dollar you can buy. And don't just limit it to the price range either, this amp sounds far better than anything in its range. I have enjoyed taking this thing to shows and blowing away everyone with it tonal capabilities. Freakin' amazing! Buy it and a back brace, you won't regret it for a second.

The sound that comes out of this amp is great…To look at the amp, (by the way which has a very handsome tweed)you would never figure on the type of tone it puts out…I have replaced all tube's with JJ el- 84's in the power section, and jj ecc83's and a sovtek 5751 in the driver position. The amp's lead channel is very impressive, and the clean channel is very sweet and chimmey like a good fende, great blues tone….I never thought much of Peavey amps before, but this model is great!…. To the posting that said "who would want to use 10's for rock!" you obviously have not played through this amp.The 10's have a very focused and deep punchy sound. A different vibe than 2×12's,very cool!

The combo is a all tube 4×10 reverb with channel switching @ 50 powerful watts. One nice feature I like about this amp is that it has a seperate pre and post gain for the lead channel. The master volume controls the overall level for both clean and lead channels….I like that!

I think I can depend on it based on previous postings…It seems to have a very solid construction and has been built Road Worthy….

Once again,I really love the sound of this amp…I play as my main rig a Carvin ValveMaster series 2/with a 73'Red Marshall cab( This set-up is awsome, another Under-rated amp)I originaly purchased the Classic 50 for smaller room's because the Carvin was to damn loud. I can honestly say the Classic 50 4/10 gives my other amp a run for it's money( even though they both have their own unique tone)…I f your looking for a inexspensive GREAT sounding amp, do yourself a favor and check one of these Classic 50's out.
