Sounds great. Cleans are good (not as good as a SD HB though) and distortion is nice too. Does both of them well but also not the best for either, but still very good for mid level pickups. I play classic rock and 80's new wave.

Trans Green finish w/ matching headstock. Only made 4 of these as it was a special run for a dealer that got cancelled. 2 Dean humbuckers, mahagony explorer body, creme binding, neck through contruction, made in Korea, grover tuners, tune o matic bridge, 2 volumes 1 tone knob, 22 frets, rosewood fingerboard.

Set up was very good no problems there, especially since is was a special run, they may have worked a little harder on this.

Never used them, but have heard good things about Dean

John (02/04/2007)

I play rock oldies and blues, but like heavy metal, a very misused term these days. If it doesn't shred, it's dead. NO RAP, including the heavy, dull rap that passes for metal today.

This guitar sounds fine for everything that I play. I might spend a couple of hundred bucks on new pickups and make it sound 3% better. NOT! With a 100 watt tube amp and tone controls for same, I can make this guitar sound any way I like.

This is a 2002 guitar made in Korea with 22 frets, set mahogany neck, mahogany body, 2 volume pots, 1 tone pot, a 3-way toggle switch, 2 zebra Dean humbuckers, a tune-o-matic bridge, strings through body, Grover tuners, 24 3/4 scale, 1 11/16 nut, and a trans brazilia burst (tobacco burst) finish. The body and neck are bound with single-ply ivory-looking binding. The frets are large to jumbo. The fretboard is rosewood with dot inlays. This guitar is supposed to be a reissue of the Z produced by Dean Zelinsky in 1979 and has a large (series II) flying V headstock and an explorer shaped body.

This is my fifth Dean guitar. All factory setup jobs suck, and I do a complete setup when I get any guitar. I have the action low and have no buzzing problems. The bridge is OK, but could be better. The frets were nicely done and level. There were a few, very minor finish flaws, the first on any Dean guitar for me. It took over an hour of very close scrutiny to find them. The nut is cheap plastic and will be replace by the Dean Guitar company at no charge, but causes no problems with the sound. All future 79 models will have graphite nuts.

Overall, at least a 9.9, but not a 10.

The customer support at Dean can't be matched by any other guitar company, period! I could mail the guitar back to them to install the new nut, but I'd rather do it myself. Doing is learning. If you have a problem with Dean support, the owner of Dean (Elliot Rubinson) will personally take care of it, something unheard of before.

This is a hot guitar, even with the stock pickups. It really pushes a Fender Deluxe Reverb but I have a blackface Twin Reverb, '66 Bandmaster, Line 6 and several other amps. I got little response from the tone controls until I turned the volume all the way up. The pots need to be changed and I will do this myself. I've owned a '67 ES-335 and liked it. I will probably like this guitar also.

2004 Made in Korea. Laminated top with std. 2 p/u, 2 vol. and 2 tone controls. Gold hardware and tobacco sunburst finish. I paid $259 in a pawn shop and it still had tags on it. I can't argue the price. No case but I have a new case on order.

There was sticker on the guitar saying it was set up in the USA. It had a pretty good set up but I tweaked it a little. The pickups are adjusted about right for me. The neck is great. Even with low action, there is no buzz on any string, all the way down the neck. I can't complain about the finish. Probably the "prettiest" guitar I have ever had. This guitar was used but there was not a mark on it and it didn't have a case. It had only been out of pawn for about 30 min. when I walked in and bought it.

I only emailed Gibson with my serial number and they emailed me immediately with the age of the guitar and told me where it was made.

I play many different styles and I do a bit of studio work, having recorded TV jingles and a couple of albums. I use this axe for almost all my electric rythym work and any electric jazz (Larry Carlton, Eric Gale, etc). I play it through a Peavey Truimph 60 (tube),a Roland JC120, and a Roland Cube60. It sounds good through any of them, especially the Cube60 (w/Celestion V1260 spkr) which seems to let the voice of the instrument happen. The treble(bridge) pickup leaves a little to be desired by itself, but the the middle (2PU) setting anthe neck pickup are satisfying to me most of the time. I use a Dunlop CryBaby Wah Wah and Chorus/Delay/Tremolo pedals from Danelectro or ZOOM 2020 and 4040 Effects processors. I( plan to put either Gibson 57's or Seymour Duncans on it judging by all the feedback that the other reviewers have given.

KOREAN MADE 1995, BEST LOOKING GUITAR MADE IN THE ES335 STYLE eg; thinline-double cutaway semi hollow body two Humbucking 2 vol/ 2 tone control with a price tag under $700.00 that feels right and sounds right. The pickups are original Samsung and don't have that much vibe for real power lead playing, but they have enough for any easy listening and most rythym work. The finish and fit are extraordinary.I brought this guitar after trying it out against a vintage ES335(used). I got it with a gig-bag, but I have since gotten the hardshell case for it.

The action was perfect for my style, but my dealer set the instrument up to my specs (.010-.046, low action with the stop tailpiece down on the body). I'm always trying something new with my guitar settups, so I have tried a hybrid string mix of .010,.012,.016,.026,.036,.047 which fits me a little better for all the styles I play and allows me to bend to my heart's content. The Gold plating on the pickup covers has all but faded away, but I'm a working player not a guitar runway model or collector, so I don't care as long as I sound good and the axe feels comfortable.

Elegance, Pure Elegance

This guitar is simply amazing. I purchased a used one on impulse, and have to say it was the best impulse buy EVER. The finish is flawless, and a much deeper colour than in the stock photo (which is still very nice, but the picture does not do the guitar justice). These pickups are HOT. No need to change them, they have a nice amount of natural distortion, and will give you some sweet clean tones. The neck, Oh My Gods, the neck is nice and meaty, but not too thick, and is a pleasure to play, very fast. Intonation is perfect, and this baby stays in tune (thanks to the Grover tuners). My only complaint with it, which can be easily remedied, is it's not perfectly balanced, a bit top-heavy. But that is going to happen with most odd-shaped guitars. All you gotta do is re-locate the strap buttons to change the centre of gravity. I would recommend straplocks, and put the one closest to the neck in the standard Gibson postion, at the neck joint on the back, and the one closest to the bridge I would raise to at least halfway closer to the top from where it is now. This is not a big deal for me right now, as I usually sit when I play, and this guitar is well balanced for sitting. Other than that, though, this guitar is perfect. Especially for METAL!!!!!!
