Fender Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster Electric Guitar vs. Schecter V1FR Hellraiser Electric Guitar with Floyd Rose

Fender Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster Electric Guitar

Fender Joe Strummer Signature Telecaster Electric Guitar

The legacy of Joe Strummer (1952-2002) continues to live on, grow louder and shake up the establishment with the release of the Joe Strummer Telecaster, modeled after some of the beat up and battle-hardened Telecaster guitars (especially his famous ‘66 model) he wielded as leader of “the only band that mattersâ€â€”seminal Brit punk commando unit the Clash.

Designed in cooperation with the Strummer estate, the guitar has a highly distressed “road-worn†treatment that emulates the worn-to-the-wood layers of gray auto primer and flat black spray paint he made famous. It also features a “Revolution Rock†engraved neckplate.

have one, love it

Wife bought it for christmas of 07. First thing that appealled to her was the finish, and that it would set apart from my other guitars, strats, teles, and lps. I plugged it in my super reverb fender and was blown away by the tone and sound. It has been used the most since I got it, the only complaint was that adjusting the neck and bridge was almost impossible due to the rust on the screws. I had to soak the screws for about 2 hours to allow me to adjust it. Now it plays like it should and can't stop playing it.

Not again

Please this guitar looks like a weekend project for a hack that knows what a beat up tele should looklike but definately not what it should play like.

"Best guitar for under 2 grand—- for $850"

This guitar is an aesthetic wonder. I bought it just because of its stunning features and drop-dead looks. And it was worth it.

Come on. This is the best value there is. THE BEST.

I purchased the "blemished" item, and could not find one single significant defect. there was a TINY amount of surface scratches, like the kind a guitar gets after being played for about a week, but for the $230 i saved… definitely worth it.
All schecters, in my experience, have ridiculously high quality standards, even with the flashy inlays and whatnot they like to put in. I've never had a problem

never had to use schecter support

Very Good

This was the best decently priced phase that I could find. The sound is very organic and has a lot of depth to it. My only complant is that there is no volume adjust knob. It'd be cool to be able to turn the volume down when the switch is up and turn the volume up when the switch is down.

Uknowit88 from Detroit, MI (Sep 27, 2007)

first off, this is a decent effect. large (sometimes insane) swooshes can be had from this pedal. subtle settings are not so interesting but the craziness this pedal can create seems almost worth it.

WORST PROBLEMS WITH THIS PEDAL: First off, it is NOT in any way shape or form true by-pass, which means that even when pedal is off it still colors your clean tone which means you will have tone loss (your highs will be cut) and you will probably hear subtle swooshing (especially with the color switch on high). An even bigger problem i have with the unit is a significant volume drop when pedal is on. the mxr phase 90 has a volume boost which is cool but this little piece gives a nice drop. playing in your bedroom or in a store you won't notice (i didnt). but live or at practice, it sounds like garbage when the volume sinks suddenly.

another complaint i have is that the small stone cuts your highs when on. its almost like a tone shifts to more bass. and when you are going through the swooshing cycle the sound almost cuts off on the bottom of the wave for too long. when it comes back in its loud and intense but the bottom of the wave almost goes too silent (if that makes sense).

i still have the box but i'm considering selling it. i've got a phase 90 now so i can compare the two. from what i've heard already i'm liking the phase 90.

One knob, one switch. not bad. color switch just makes the phasing more drastic. knob is the rate, pretty easy.

pedal broke the day i took it home. no lie. poor construction inside, prone to problems right away. board is placed in a vulnerable position. had to rig up something to keep the circuit board from hitting the switch which was causing an awful noise.

box gets dings, mark really easily. EH ain't what they used to be. they make cheap pedals now, with no true bypass. i'm starting to rid myself of all EH stuff. the volume drop (not exclusive to the small stone) is too much for me.

also, the boxes they use are very cheap. my bassist had a big muff usa and the box bent up like a cheap soda can, just from using it normally for 3 months. i opened that sucker up and was very disappointed at the quality inside.

for me anymore, EH=overrated

see above. be careful. this thing is cool but has many drawbacks. check out the phase 90 and beware of the volume drop.

Its killing my tone on my tube amp.

Using a Fender Deville 2X12 60 watt tube.

The oscallating woosh is gross.

Its easy to use.

3 knobs.

one knob fell off, it looks very much plastic and not able to stand up to the riggors of violence that one occurs during a show, puke, boots and the "OOPS spilt beer"

Id gig with out a back up because Id just throw it in the trash if it broke.

Its harsh, even at low volumes its sucking my tone.

Ok, let me try again at HIGH tube amp volume,

BRB…

GAH, it sounds ok I guess. Just had my amp loud enough to have my pant legs vibrate and chest emplode.

I used it in the effects loop as suggested but it did not sound any better.

Try this, have no volume on your guitar, turn it off then turn it on then just let it stand there you can hear a wooshing sound even at low setting if the unit.

I have a digital flanger also and I dont use that.

It kind of fattens up or doubles your toneat very low setting but the constiant oscellating effect of my tube hiss *60 hrz sound* is goofy during silent parts.

Also I have an ENORMIOUS amp and its hard to get past volume 2.5.

Im thinking this would be better for humbucker pickups and a 10 inch amp or smaller champ.

Well its not getting along with my Tube amp and its amplifing my tube humm.

Its going back in the closit or perhapse Ill use it with my 12 string guitar.

To sum it up, $800 tube amp, $900 guitar plus $25 flanger plus single coils was bad and tone sucking!

The sound was "Cool" but even at lowest settings the "WOOSHING" was enough to make me unplug it and go back to tone.

*Kind of fattened up my sound but I think ill get a Keeley Mod $200 pedal*

For $5 It was not worth it but if you can get one on ebay for $10 and you like to collect guitar things you might use or might not then its ok.

I use Waves VST plugins and even though its a $2000 collection of effects it always sounds bad compared to hardware. In this case of the hashbrowns it smokes the hashbrows. I took this to my friends house and he would not even plug it in, he knows much more about this stuf then I do and said look for something analog from BOSS.

K, was cheaper then a 6 pack of beer but also gave my tone a hang over.

If it were stolen or lost id look around bars and clubs for the woosh sound untill I found the guy (Not the device)

Been playing for 20 years on acoustic, this is my first fender strat.

I compare this to waves plugins and my digital device but the digital device is a lot "Lower volume" and does not woosh at low guitar volume.

THe hash browns name is dorky, I remember when this device came out new and I they were BUDGET items that enabled you to buy their entire salid of effects for very low money.

jay (06/18/2006)

I play a cheap-o Johnson strat knockoff. A good guitar though. I play it through a 65 watt Kustom 1X12. It's sound rivals that of the built in flange. Its a little noisy when not being played, but for 30 bucks I cant complain. I love the peramiters. I can get all sorts of cracked out sounds.

Easy as pie…er… hash browns. A couple turns of the knobs and its ready.

Its plastic… hard plastic I guess… it hasnt broken yet….

I play classic rock. I use it to play Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" It works great with a lot of gain. Pretty. If it were stolen Id buy another. Its a very versatile thing. I wish it had built in distortion… that would be cool. ZEPPELIN RULES!

Let the dragon breath!!!

thi am p i unretrained. Both volume knob up and this amp' ound make you feel a if your riding a Harley flat out, wide open and unrestrained. At lower volume, it is like holding back a bucking mustang.

Rickey Bobby from Manhattan Beach, CA (Jul 13, 2007)

gorgeous clean and great smooth breakup as you crank pre-amp and power amp. seriously loud for the size. it gave me a serious fright when I A-B'd it with my Mesa lone star. Fantastic bite on all sounds and it loves to scream with a clean boost in front of it.

It is hard to get the clean sounds real loud, but then what do you expect – its 30W class A, not a twin.

I dont think it has a huge range of sounds, but then i think its strong suit is that it has a really strong sonic signature. Youve got a great range here, but it always sounds distinctive.

I play a range of styles – i wouldnt use it for some stuff, but its great for blues rock and anything that needs real bite.

no criticisms at all about its sounds – if you want sounds that arent here, buy another amp – nothing has them all.

8 out of 10 for me because it really is great, but it didnt make me see God (nothing has yet)

30/15/8 W combo, powered by 4 x EL 84's. Beautiful tone – very distinctive. Al the essential features are there – fx loop, power options, facility for extension speakers etc. 5 way voicing swith is fantastic – every amp should have this feature!! Not sure i agree with others who say it changes the amp from Fender black face to Vox AC 30 to Marshall, but hell, it still works a treat. I LOVE the fact that you only geet one sound with a footswitchable boost, instead of 4 different channels. This way is so much more organic.

the only other feature i could suggest is perhaps a greater range of gain boost on the boost function, but then i guess it would be a different sort of amp, so i'm not complaining.

my rating for features is not a criticism, just an acknowledgment that it doesnt have everything – which was what was intended anyway

had it 1 day – in no position to say yet

great amp – does its thing beautifully. if, like me, you like lots of different tones, then you have to have this in your arsenal. Ive been playing 20 years, done about 2,000 gigs, played with great gear and crap. Thi is one of my favourite amps, along with a 100W lone star (not the special). sounds especially good with a custom guitar i had built with p-90's. my grosh set neck with Fralin hb's (best guitar i have every played) sounds super smooth. I dont think my strat and tele are quite as good, but still tweaking it at the moment.

love its great tone and the fact it doesnt try to be everything. the voicing switch is fantastic – more amp builders should try this. Would buy it again if stolen. Definitely one of my best ever buys

The sound is super. It's the best modeling combo amp at this time. I've wasted my time by trying a line6 duoverb(no character). I tried a PSA-1 and was not impressed one bit!

I've owned the older models and had tons of problems with the line level noise. I am happy to report they fixed the line level noise.

Lots of features and very good quality effects built in. Some will most likely want more tweakable effects(not that they are garbage or anything). The effects sound superb and are easy to find the sweet spot.

No problems. They did upgrade some things. I had two of these models at different times and they keep revamping as they go(thats a good thing). The first one I sent back because I was getting into rack gear, but missed the sound and got another one later on.

The differences I noticed now(3 months later) is that the gold pin-stripes around the amp are now flush with the exterior of the amp. It prevents the stripes from coming loose and rubbing off. I had this problem just from moving the amp on the previous models. Yes, it's just a cosmetic issue. I guess they read my comments from prior models I posted a review on. The corner pieces of the amp frame now have an extra set of metal corner. What I mean is they have the basic old model corner pieces, PLUS a metal piggy back corner piece on top of them for double the protection. I've never had any problems with this amp.

The Tonelab preamp they just release to retails stores has software to tweak alot more stuff behind the scene. I've got one coming on the way. Download their software for the tonelab and you can check it out. You don't need it to install the software. The octave pedal now has 1 voice above,2 below control, etc..

This amp does it all. Fnatastic

We all know this by now so i wont bore you all.

the ONE thing i DO recommend is this………

http://www.voxshowroom.com/northcoast/vox/cabinets/ad120vtxcab.html

I had one of these shipped to Australia and its the BEST thing i EVER did for this amp. Contact Gary and hell send you a replacement cab that looks EXACTLY like a '64 JMI voc AC30 for under $1000 AU. I paid $875 AU.

I know it sounds expensive but the cab is SO WELL MADE and you'll see what i mean when you start to pull apart the VERY cheaply made VTX cab. Gary makes these himself under license from the overlords at VOX so theyre not replicas, they're vox amps.

I so LOVE mine

Once you take the amp to the tech and get the guy to replace ALL the cheap jack inputs on the back, you should be ok. also VERY important. Make sure the amp power is OFF BEFORE you change the wattage selector……. i found out the hard way.

Once all that is done, then this thing is ready for abuse.

ive owned the latest CC2x with the blue speakers but i had to sell it. I couldnt get over the overall chinese flavour i was getting from this amp. I didnt look, feel or sound right.

I now have the PERFECT blend of old and new with my vtx and the JMI replacement cab. Ill NEVER EVER sell this amp.
