Im amplifying a S-series seven string Ibanez through an effects board.

Lets get things straight. If you want a fancy amp with effects in built on it, then go for it. You'll be paying more. Today's music is all about footpedals because you can do a hell of a lot more tweeking.

This amp is raw essential power. If you want BASS, this thing is huge. Let the pedal do the work and change the sound. I promise you this amp is the be all and end all. The sound I have customised through my pedal produces the most brutal thumping noise I have ever heard – ever. And its still got a good solid tone in it. And then if you want a warm mellow sound, this thing is also perfect.

The Woogie is a bloody engine. Pump it with the signal and it will pump out tremendous energy. You cannot find any other amp like this for the price. I'd played a lot of amps before I made my choice and the Woogie literally blasts the competition away.

For those metal heads looking at a Marshal I say this: try look past the brand name and realise its an overpriced amp that was big in the 80s. They come off a production line. The Woogie was specifically engineered by Frank for years and he has produced something amazing. This is his life's work. His passion. And its the biggest secret I want others to get into.

The best sound Ive heard on the Adelaide live circuit was Captain Cleanoff. They use Woogies. I tell you, they deliver the biggest punch.

Read the Features in the other reviews below. I bought mine late 2003. It has a solid wooden case covered in black vinyl, with gold coloured plating behind the large control dials. This tube amp delivers 100 Watts of RMS power.

The amp is great. You can crank it for hours day after day. If a tube cylinder goes, you could even replace it yourself.

I had my spill in the Sound section. Lets just say that as soon as I have the cash, Im buying another one, now, for one insane set up.

Most Versatile Amp for the Money on the Planet!

I have the Spider Valve 100 Watt head with the Line 6 4×10 Celestion cabinet. It is hands down the best deal foe a half stack out there. I've played them all -Marshalls, Fenders, Randalls, Mesa -Etc. They don't hold a candle to Line 6. This amp has over 350 presets with over 12 sound modes, and built in digital studio quality effects (better than ANY of my stomp pedals)-Reverb, Presence, Chorus, Flange, Tape Echo, Delay, Phaser. And the technology they have now is truly incredible- all the effects are better than ever- there's no need for another pedal ever again! The digital pre- sounds are then run through a TRUE Bogner All-Tube power section. There is NO-HUM with this amp!- it has a built in noisegate! It has every sound from country clean to" Metallica on Crack" metal sounds – and everything in between! It is more than powerful- I can't have it past "2" without it shaking the walls – I'm not kidding! Why pay $3000 for just the amp head of another brand – with no cabinet. When you can have this whole package for half that! This amp is the best I have ever played, and I've been playing for 20 years. And it's not just for the young metal guys either – it has it all. Don't pay for a name – it's all about the music in the end – and this amp delivers!

All you really need

I got this a few months ago to replace the old kustom head I was using for years, and coupled with my Korg Toneworks AX3000G and crate 320 watt 4×12 (discontinued a year or so ago, better than any crate cab these days), this thing is perfect for my style. I wouldn't rely on the effect built in, but when I plug my own effect into the insert input in the back, I can get plenty of volume with great full sound. Definitely a good buy, just don't expect it to have the best effects ever.

Just don't know about this one.

I got this head the other day and was very disappointed when I found it had the same problem as I have read about in many reviews, the effects come in and out when none of them are turned on. The high gain channel was pretty much busted, but I blame that on a bad input. The gain sounds great, but with the effects that won't go away, this head was pretty much useless. Returned it the very next day. I suggest hold out and save for a better head, or go with a Line 6 or Randall if you really need something fast like I did and all you can afford is a lower end solid state head.
