Fender Champion 600 Guitar Combo Amplifier (5 Watts, 1×6 in.)

Fender Champion 600 Guitar Combo Amplifier (5 Watts, 1x6 in.)

A fun and affordable tribute to a rare and historic Fender amp. The new Champion 600 is a 5-watt tube amp with a 6 in. speaker and 1950 “two-tone†looks. Fender added a higher-gain preamp circuit to let the overdriven tone exceed that of the original, and they also added a choice of high- or low-gain inputs. Internal speaker jack enables use of a larger speaker cabinet.

Now I Understand

I've been playing off and on for about 25 years and have never owned a tube amp. All of the "tube vs. solid state" stuff had always mystified me, so I started researching inexpensive tube amps. I didn't have a chance to test the Champ, so I bought a Pro Junior based on the way it sounded in the store. I'm sure the tone is as great as people say it is, if it were not so darned LOUD! I couldn't turn the Pro Junior up past 3 without my wife telling me to turn it down (from upstairs). At 6, the pets were going nuts and the walls of the room were vibrating. How could I appreciate this amp if my only thought while practicing is " I hope I don't wake the kids." Anyone who says a Pro Junior is a home practice amp must be losing some hearing or working with some serious square footage. So, I took it back and finally tested a Champ 600. After 15 seconds, I knew I had to have it! I didn't know an amplifier could make a guitar sound this sweet! I play a Lite Ash Tele and it sounds like pure heaven through this thing! All you beginning guitarist should start with one of these. Wait until you actually learn how to play before fooling with effects (which you can add later). I finally understand what all the fuss over tube amps is all about. All at a price that didn't leave me feeling like I cheated on my wife. So long, solid state. Well done, Fender!

Pretty Tone in Small Package

I've had it for 3 months so far and I love it. I play it at home and I like how I can get overdrive tones w/out playing too loud and make the neighbors mad. The amp has natural overdrive around 10. You only have a volume knob but that one sound you get is pretty sweet. I run a few pedals with it and it sounds great – Keely Java Boost / Tube Screamer / Boss BD2 and they all sound great through it. You can really overdrive it and it gets quite loud.
The only complaint is that the power tube it comes with is crap – it blew out once I started running pedals through it. I had to replace it.
