I'm tempted to give it a 0. Worst #//??*# amp I ever used. Not so much the sound but the controlability. Wrong value pots, bad circuit designs, Gad were they drunk when they designed this? Sure at a loud volume which means anything over 2 in this case it sounds pretty good but you can't control anything. The tone controls aren't normal. Nothing seems normal on this amp. The Reverb is absolutlely AWFUL. Maybe they meant they 'Hot Rodded' the Reverb? The output is outrageous and again the knob is useless past 1 or 2. Overall this amp is loud, rude and a damn shame. It makes a mockery of the Fender label. I have a Blues Deluxe and I absolutely love it. I replaced this one with a Traynor YCV40WR and it's 10 times the amp this one is.

HRD Special Edition in Brown Tolex with the C12N Jensen Speaker. The brown tolex has white "chicken head" knobs and a cream colored grill cloth. Beautiful looking amp.

Probably is didn't have it long enough.

Yikes…. maybe this amp is the new trend in tone? I doubt it though. Any Silverfaced Fender is many times the amp this one is. Again I'm tempted for 1 – "What a hunk of junk" but I guess tone and taste is subjective. My major gripe is not the tone but the controls. THis amp is a great big hassle to use. IT's definitely no Bassman.

Three channels – clean, drive, more drive. Clean channel is very clean. I don't use the drive channel all that much, but the more drive channel is dirty. You can "help" the drive channel by using a BOSS SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal – which is a good investment for just $60 or so. I have been playing a Fender American Telecaster, a Gibson SG Standard, and a Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique through the amp and they all sound great, especially the SG! The amp is not noisy, but with the Overdrive pedal I am thinking of buying a Noise Gate to run at the end of the loop.

Beautiful Texas Red Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp – paid $649. Three channels – clean, drive, more drive. Two-button footswitch pedal. I play a lot of 80s metal, classic rock, southern rock. This amp does not stand up to my Marshall 5212 when it comes to playing metal, but for classic rock the tones are sweet and amazing. The clean channel is super clean. 40 watts, but the loudest 40 watts I have ever heard!

I've only had the amp for a few months, and so far I have not had any issues.

I've been playing over 19 years, and this is just the second guitar amp I have purchased in the past 15 years. In the past, whenever I had put together a decent amount of cash, I'd go out and buy a guitar or bass. I finally took the plunge on this amp and it was the best purchase I have made in the last decade! It is loud and light, the sound breaks up a little bit sooner than I would like, but that might only be noticeable to an experienced pro or semi-pro player. If you are looking for a good relatively inexpensive amp, I highly reccommend this one!

For 20 years the Roland JC120 Jazz Chorus has been the amp of choice for jazz axemen and other guitarists who can’t get enough of its clean sound and rich, stereo chorus. The JC120 features twin 60W + 60W amps, two 12 in. speakers, and 2 input channels (each with 3-band EQ).

When you plug your guitar into a JC, all the true tonal character of your instrument comes out. Distortion is extremely low and frequency response is accurate. This means the quality of your effects come through, too. And to make sure of that, there’s a stereo effects loop on channel 2 that meets full professional specifications; you can select series/parallel connections and switch between different input and output signal levels.

But let’s not forget the effects that come with the JC120! Yeah, there’s that famous wide-spatial chorus that you’ve heard in countless recordings and performances. But there’s also vibrato with rate and depth controls mild distortion and clear reverb, all of which can be turned on and off with footswitches. And though the sound of the Jazz Chorus is certainly refined, there’s nothing delicate about this amp! It’s solidly constructed and known for handling a lot more road abuse than a lot of rocker amps. Whether you play jazz or not, if you want an excellent and dependable stereo amp that sets professional standards, look no further than the JC120.

ive just picked up a jcm 50 marshall head and had el34 s put in and wired up the roland to take the marshall head it sounds great . when at home im often playing the jc without hooking the head up >I think they are a fucking great amp..

my jc is an 86 ive had it now 3 years shit distortion but great chourus.very clean .

no worries there yet it kicks ass in this department also. I have a lot of guitar buddys that want this legendary amp.

I wouldnt sell this bitch for a thousand dollars .im in desparate need of a quad box for my marshall head but cant part with the jc ..III keep saving my money and keep this amp for my son.

craig johnson (03/25/2001)

Together with the Zoom 7.1ut I can produce nice sounds ranging from Santana over Hendrix to Van Halen. Now don't misunderstand me! I come fairly near those "perfect guitar sounds" but it is still a long way to go. I have never managed to produce the exact same sound recorded on the CD's and of course I don't own a 2000$ Guitar ("only" an Ibanez 320 RG).

And don't fall for demo videos shown on the www.rolandus.com site or you will be dreadfully disappointed!! (example: http://rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=249&ParentId=57)

NOTICE THAT THE VOLUME SWITSCH IS TURNED TO ZERO OF THE "GOLDY LOCKS GUY" AND THE OTHER ONE HAS EVEN FORGOTTEN TO PLUG IN THE GUITAR :-) Funny that they play great sounds like on a CD?????

In Summary a very good solid state amp for using separate effects, enjoy the chorus (it comes very close to the chorus used by Guns and Roses in knocking on heavens door, 3 Doors Down Kryptonite and was used in Nothing Else Matters from Metallica). The chorus really sounds like the real thing on the Metallica CD!

I would not say that it is noisy but you can clearly hear the usual SSSSSSHHHHH sound when not strumming a note. But not more than any other 100W amp. When the chorus is activated you get a funny short of SSSSHHHHH reverb-sound after every note (very silent). You only notice this when your in an entirely silent environment.

The overall sound can be described as very clean without the amp making any effect on your pure input sound. Actually I like the ???Distortion knob??? but not as a real distortion effect but rather for adding some more gain to the chorus clean sound.

I guess it's one of the early models (approx. 1980) since it still has lever switches rather than buttons. The amp itself is not very versatile since it only has a very nice clean tone with chorus, vibe and reverb ,but you can forget about heavy distortion. But it works very nicely with effect pedals giving an unlimited versatility. I for instance use a "Zoom 7.1ut" (multieffects), connected stereo like by the reverse input.

It is very loud and has enough power for club playing.

The amp is very old and still works great. Nevertheless the bolts and the speakers are slowly rusting even though they were kept dry at all times.

I love:

the chorus, the stability and quality, the power, the wheels, the vibe, the stereo amplification of effects.

I hate:

the weight, the ugly bolts, that they don???t have all the spare parts anymore for the old series (so you should buy one of the new series with silver cone speakers), the carrying handle.

When comparing different amps I selected the JC due to the relatively low price and the nice harmonization with effect pedals. I guess it is a relatively cheap solution to many different guitar sounds and I definitely like playing different genre. Nevertheless I would have preferred a Fender twin reverb, which was too expensive for me.

I play throug two guitars. One is a Carvin custom Bolt with three single coils and the other is a Carvin Holdsworth model with two humbuckers. I believe this amp works best with humbuckers because you really have to turn the treble way down on the single coils. This is a two channel amp and switches between clean (Roland JC-120) and amp models. The Roland clean channel is very decent with way more bottom end than what you expect to get from a ten inch speaker. The mids are well defined and the highs are clear. When you switch to the amp models depending on what you like you will probably only dial into one or two of them. My favorite is the classsis stack which is modeled after a Marshall. I find the rectifier stack usable also which is modeled after a Mesa Boogie. The Brit combo is very non-impressive to me. Neither is the acoustice simulator. Blackface is very low in volume. Being able to find two good tones to switch back and forth between is good enough for me. I am not even going to try to tell anyone that these models can stand side by side with the real thing because they can't. All in all the amp works very well for practice is a bargain.

Purchased new. Amp manufactured in 2007. Two channel operation. Channel switching can be performed with an optional footswitch. I purchased the Boss FS-6 which allows me to switch channels and effects. For what you will pay for this amp it is very feature rich. I use this as a practice amp at home and the power level is quite adequate. It is a solid state modeling amp with 6 amp models.

No problems however the amp seems to be solidly constructed so I don't anticipate any.

If some of the amp models were alittle better I would give a ten but that is enough to make it fall short overall. I have used tube and solid state amps in the past and this one may be the better of the solid states.

Roland Cube 30X Combo Amp Customer Review

It will attract metal-babes. If you want the older gentler ladies, get a vintage Fender amp and wear dockers when you play.

First of all, this thing is compact for a 30 Watt, and very loud too. Need earplugs for anything above half volume. So that with the good distortion makes for a great value. Like others said, best in its price range. Only thing that might come close is the similar Vox, but the Vox is quite a bit wider than the Cube and for me compactness was important.

Oh yeah, this amp oozes quality. Totally solid, yet light-weight for its size and wattage. The pots are active not passive, so I won't be expecting any crackling ever.

Haven't used it, but everything I've heard/read says Roland provides good support.

"Nice solid amp, but maybe not for the guitarist that uses his amp a lot."

Nah… it's just average. No sex appeal.

Yes

Very poor inputs. I've done over 700 shows with mine over a 9 year period and the inputs are getting bad.

Never dealt with the manufactuer

a customer from cs.com (12/12/2007)

This is easily one of the most beautiful, clean sounding amps I've heard…and I've heard almost everything. Gorgeous.

The overdrive is crap…sounds like a bee in a bottle. Drive this baby with external pedals and you won't be dissapointed.

The reverb is fantastic, the other knobby thing adds sparkle. Dig it.

Standard settings…low, mid, hi, reverb.

Has overdrive but it's pretty worthless.

Had it 4 years, never have replaced the tubes, have gigged and rehearsed the shit out of it.

It's a tank.

If you got the cash, want a perfect clean sounding, full sounding, delicious amp…look no further.

The ONLY downside to this is that it's FUCKING HEAVY. To get a good tone you gotta pay your dues and this means carrying this fucker to gigs and rehearsal. I live in a flat 2 stories up and carrying this thing to practice every Saturday…well, it hurts man. But the tone is so lovely that it's worth the pain and anguish. It's also can be very loud without distorting, acheiving those clean tones while keeping the drummer in the back.
