Marshall Lied!

Wow.. they said this was a 4 channel head. well, to tell you the truth, its a 12 channel head. each of the 4 channels have 3 "sub-channels." you can get ANY kind of distortion, crunch, or overdrive you need as well as those sparkling cleans. This amp is versatility heaven. Whatever your looking for in any other amp, this amp can do. From blues to country to classic rock to bonecrushing metal, jvm 410 has it. Last amp youll ever need.

bddorais from California (May 22, 2008)

clean-one of the best cleans on any amp period! ive played through fenders and vox's that are in theory top of the line

crunch- great, very punchy very rich harmonics coming through and it cleans up great very responsive

od1-great!very creamy smooth typical marshal sounding and it cleans up great :)

od2- i dont use it that much, but it can be usefull for sure

4 channels 3 modes p channel a lot to chose from other specs were already mentioned aswell

i havent had any problem so far, i usualy play gigs 2/3 times a week andi do have a backup(laney combo)

tube amps do not make miracles for your playing,if you suck, buying a tube amp, especialy marshalls(JVM) wich are very dynamic and responsive, wont improve a thing in fact it will only make you sound worse and another thing, those eq knobs that say bass, mids and treble are there for you to use it!so dont be afraid, if you cant get a great tone out of this amp youd better off just playing acoustic or not even playing at all(no disrespect)

Its a great amp, try it out!

clean stays clean no matter how loud you go. Crunch is in the marshall jcm area very usable love the way the tubes break up on this channel very 80's at high gain settings. lead is way over the top i st the gain around 5.5, 6 and get sustain for days. I love the active eq on the distorted channels makes the amp very versitile. playes lamb of god to Cream between the crunch and the lead. no mesa but also better than any randall, m,arshall SOLID STATE or peice of crap 6 (line 6)

2008 3 channel reverb tube 4 6l6 4 12ax7's efects loop line out with level 4 button footswitch (clean, crunch, lead, fx loop/boost) interesting that there isa no footswitchable reverb. 120 TUBE watts.

had a problem with loss of gain but i think it was just the tubes telling me they were tired. Amp sat in my car for a week in 35F temps and still kicks.

overall id prolly put some el384s in it but i just like that greasy tone. great for some one who wants to step up with out putting their life saveings into an amp

JT (11/12/2008)

I currently play rock and classic rock with a variety of guitars. I use Les Pauls, SG's, a Strat, PRS and a thinline hollowbody. This amp has that 70's rock sound in spades. I use it with the band I play with becuase I wanted a less expensive alternative to dragging my Marshall plexi around with me. No dissapointments yet. I really have only used the clean and crunch channels and both have been surprisingly good. My expectations were a lot lower given the price point and where it's made. I've had several comments about the overall sound and how full it really is. There are seperate eq controls for each channel which is nice too, but I rely on a eq pedal for dialing in the sound I want. At 120 watts, I've only had the master volume up to about 1/3 of full volume. I play Santana, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Zepp and have had no trouble emulating those bands with this amp. That says alot. Granted, I use pedals here and there for some of the nuances, but the amp provides a solid foundation to build on.

Bugera is relatively new to the scene and they came strong. Mine is a new 2008. It's an all tube head with 6l6 power tubes. 120 watts, which is probably overkill unless you tour big venues. It's nice to have that kind of power on tap even if it is to satisfy your ego. It's a three channel head similar to the Peavey Triumph 120 that I used to own. Clean, Crunch and Lead. The lead channel seems a little "over the top" for the classic rock I like to play, but the head room would be perfect for those metal players. The clean and crunch channels are quite nice. The amp has an external FX loop with level control (nice) and built in reverb (never use it I have a pedal I like) Speaking of pedals, this amp loves them. You actually can get a nice overdriven sound through the crunch channel by adjusting the gain. The included footswitch is adequate an relatively sturdy. The control knobs on the the other hand are a little on the "chinzy" side and I fear they won't hold up.

The amp appears to be built well. There are some cheap plastic adornments that I could live without and, as mentioned above, the control knobs seem a little cheap. So far though no issues. I would gig it without a back-up right now because of the low hours on the tubes.

I've been playing several years. I own seven guitars, three amps, two cabs and a bazillion pedals. If it were stolen I'd buy another one in a flat second. For the money, this is the best value I've seen. I've played others in this price range and I still think this sounds best. The convertible power tubes is another reason to like this amp for the dollars. I've seen comparisons between this and a Mesa or 5150/6505. I've played both. It's NOT a MESA, it's NOT a 5150. It's a really nice amp for under $500.

Vox Heritage Collection AC30HH Handwired Guitar Amplifier Head vs. Peavey 6505 Guitar Amplifier Head (120 Watts)

Vox Heritage Collection AC30HH Handwired Guitar Amplifier Head

Vox Heritage Collection AC30HH Handwired Guitar Amplifier Head

Your search for the Holy Grail of VOX tone ends here. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of VOX guitar amplifiers, Vox introduces the latest in the new Heritage Collection range of hand-wired amplifiers – the AC30H2. Rather than just a typical reissue where a vintage amp is dusted off and copied, this amplifier, like the others in the Heritage Collection, transports you through the golden age of VOX tone, combining the prized EF86 preamp channel of 1958 with the 1963 Top Boost channel all in one amplifier. Add in some modern tone shaping control enhancements and the result is perhaps the finest VOX amplifier in the company’s 50 year history.

Channel 1

Channel 1 is the EF86 Preamp channel, and features two inputs wired in the traditional way providing a 6dB gain difference between them. A two-position BASS SHIFT switch is included, with position 1 voiced to the original vintage-correct bass response and position 2 voiced to tighten the bass response and reduce any muddiness during high volume use. The three-position BRILLIANCE SWITCH provides flat response when in the OFF position. Position 1 is a new position voiced like the early AC30 “Treble†amps, while position 2 is the original brilliance circuit, which acts as a dramatic bass cut. The EF86 Mode switch re-configures the EF86 valve from Pentode mode to Triode mode. Triode mode will give a lower gain tone with higher headroom. Pentode mode is the famed original mode and has a very sweet high gain tone with less headroom.

Channel 2

Channel 2 is the Top Boost Preamp channel. Like Channel 1, this channel includes two inputs wired with a 6dB gain difference between them. The Treble and Bass controls are from the 1963 Top Boost circuit and are extremely interactive. Very minor adjustments of these controls can yield dramatic changes in tone color. And true to VOX form is the Top Cut control, which cuts high from either channel end as it’s turned up.

Flexible Power

The O/P Switch adds even more flexibility to the AC30 Heritage. This switch changes the power output valves from Pentode Mode, which is the normal operating mode of the power amplifier, to Triode Mode which halves the power output to 15 watts and at the same time offering smoother tonal characteristics.

The Finishing Touches

Great care and research went into the cosmetics for this special amplifier which perfectly blends authentic vintage styling with contemporary attributes. These touches include vintage-inspired cream vinyl covering with complimenting dark tan colored handles.

Great Amp

Right out of the box it played amazingly. You can't beat the signiture sounds it produces and with the pentode and triode options this amp is the most versatile amp I have ever played and the last I will buy.

This is my second vox amp head and I love it. It has a good (warm) 60s tone that is to die for. Sounds good with a Strat or any Gibson guitar. Yes it is made in China but what isn't made China today. The quality of this amp is very very good. And yes the amp head is 100% hand-wired I took it apart and looked. Also the head made of 100% Birch ply, No cheap pressboard on this Vox amp, Construction very rock soid. Do you remember 1960s the early Rolling Stones, John, Paul, George, Ringo, If you remember these names, did you like the music The good time rock and roll, If you did you will love this Vox Amp.

unbeleivable to me, everything is so crisp and clear yet powerfull. Its not syrupy at all, it's like it's throwing precision sound at me, no mud, nothing bad to speak of except you cant get a thick, fuzzy dark sound from it unless you color the tone with effects, the tone of this amp is very bright and snappy.

Pretty straight forward, inputs, preamp output, effects loop and EQ/volume/gain knobs, channel switches, a 'bright' and a 'crunch' switch for the rhythm channel. A reverb would have been nice, but probably not its style.

I've heard stories after stories about how this amp has handled the road and have met numerous people in the touring scene that swear by it, so it must be very reliable, I wont know for sure for about another 2-3 years, but i'm sure it deserves a ten – all that praise cant be for nothing.

For just about anything metal or rock (especially metalcore, IMO), this amp is the best in a category all its own. Some argue that the krank revolution is beating it out, and surely theres a decent number of prestige and boutique amps that can nail it on afew categories but for $1,200 or so I don't think you can do any better and it's not at all a compromise. It is a bonafide professionals amp, the 5150 is a legend , don't forget that this is the same amp, but a different name and slightly different design (all tiny things, all of it "where" they printed "what" , like the logo.)

Mithotyn (09/25/2006)

I just want to ad one thing to this Amp

It sounds great

there is only one thing that is crap, they should have made a 50 watt version because this beauty is way to loud for rehearsals

(Post gain on 2.5) and for any gig that is miced. The only way my Buddy can get the full rich sound out is Amp ist by using a HotPlate. So be carefull when you want to buy one this. Other than that Excellent Head

The best

This amp is awesome and probably the best out there. Better than ENGL, Mesa, Krank, Marshall, all of them pretty much. Great controls over this amp which allows you to have the most and best control over your sound. Great crunch, pounding lows and blasting midrange from hell. You will probably have to dig alittle to find your sound! That being said, this amp has a thin scratchy sound to it which allows for great crunch and heavy palm muting. Note: Do not add distortion through this amp. It is already there. YOU WILL NEED a tube screamer to get good overdriven lows and add warmth and mass to the amp! I use an Ibanez tubescreamer and it works perfectly. You also might want to and some chorus to beef things up as well.

I have owned a variety of amps by now….

I have owned a variety of amps by now. Marshall MG100hdfx, Laney TI100, and a Marshall JCM2000 and to be honesty nothing compared to the clear, crisp punch that the 6505+ delivers. I suggest this amp to ANY/ALL Metal guitar players because this really is the only choice.

This amp has a wide array of sounds. It can go from smooth cleans, to snappy cleans, to light gain, and heavey metal. It's definatly a metal head's amp. It gets alot of crunch, and the lead has alot of bite to it. This amp can clean up fairly well, but its no fender cleans [unfortunatly]. with the crunch switch pushed, you can get a decent "marshall" mimic tone, with some tweaking. It's a very versital amp. Definatly fits heavey metal, rock style music.

the amp is a high-gain amp, so it can get pretty noisey but nothing bad at all. And it is VERY loud. Amazing loud.

I bought this amp for about $750 or so, new, off a local dealer. Pretty solid price. Well, this amp is electronically the same thing as a 5150II. Only reason its called a 6505+ is because EVH owned the the 5150 trade or whatever. Soo peavey changed the name. This amp is 120watts, 4, 8, or 16 Ohms [selector switch], features 6 12AX7s and four 6L6GC's. It's a two channel amp, rhythm and lead. The rhythm channel features a standard EQ [low, mid, treb], pre/post gain control, a bright switch which when active boosts the treb 3db or so, a crunch switch [activates via amp or footswitch] which adds more gain [adjusted with pre gain knob] to your channel, but not as much bite as the lead channel. The lead channel has as well a standard EQ [low, mid, trb] and pre/post gain controls. Each channel has a power amp EQ which consists of Resonance and Presence controls.

The amp alos features and handy-dandy ground switch. If you ever have a grounding issue, or hear obnoxious noise that a grounding problem would cause; flip the polarity with the switch to + or – [which ever stops the sound]. Now this switch wont stop ALL buzzing, cuz it is a high gain amp, there will be a lil bit of hum when this things cranked.

This amp is SOLID. and decently heavey [48.3 pounds]. But its a very well built amp, i have no worries of it falling apart or something like such.

Ive been playing for about 5 to 6 years, gone through a fair share of amps and guitar. And i'd have to say im hanging onto this amp for awhile. Its a great amp.

Jarrett (06/25/2007)
Generic and hyper transistorized tone

Before I start this please know that there are SOME people that when used extremely tastefully do put this amp to good use. That said… most of the people I see use this amp make it sound like complete garbage. The natural tone of the amp is very thin and mid-scoop savvy, people get it's thickness by putting layers and layers of unwanted (for me) distortion on it. I'd just rather have a thick tone from the get go and get natural breakup. For every person that uses this amp tastefully there are 20 more making it sounding like a sonic abortion.
