"This amp is not a toy!"

I own it.

$199.00 is an reasonable price for an amp of this quality.

Very nicely put together. Looks like it is built to last. It seems heavy for its size. Dosn't feel cheap.

I've owned several Fender guitars, basses and amps over the past 30+ years and never needed to call Fender support. Their website provides many resources.

Nice for Harmonica

This little baby is perfect for harmonica. It's extremely simple to use because of the single volume knob. It easily overdrives with harmonica mics like my green bullet and astatic jt30.
Overall, it is a great starter or travel amp too. Very affordable for harmonica. It's got classic cosmetics. Plus it weighs like nothing and is still loud enough to play with a guitar and bass at only 5 watts. I changed the ax7 tube to a au7 so it's less prone to feedback. I will continue to use it in small venues and eventually get the legendary bassman for full band jams live.

Marshall 2266C Vintage Modern Guitar Combo Amplifier (50 Watts, 2×12 in.)

Marshall 2266C Vintage Modern Guitar Combo Amplifier (50 Watts, 2x12 in.)

The 2266C 50-watt 2X12 combo is an all-valve single channel amplifier with a choice of 2 “dynamic ranges” selectable by a footswitch. The Low range equates to the performance you would come to expect from a stock vintage Marshall amplifier in terms of tone and available gain. The High range adds an extra preamp valve into the signal path, facilitating those classic hard rock tones of the 70s. Add to this, the ability to dynamically interface with your instrument’s volume and tone controls and the experience translates into a truly expressive and organic feel in performance.

Two “frequency selective” pre-amp volumes (gains) — Body and Detail — facilitate greater flexibility of tonal shaping for individual guitars and styles while the power amplifier is heavily based on the first Marshall amplifiers to be produced, with 4 x KT66 output valves yielding that substantial fat and smooth tone. A Mid Boost switch on the front panel fattens the tone even more while a traditional Marshall tone control circuit enables fine tuning of your sound.

Vintage and Modern

These are 2 words that don’t normally sit comfortably together unless you’re talking guitar amplification. The Vintage aspect of course, the tone-fat, smooth, classic and dynamic. The Modern aspect is the feature-set included to enable ease of use and flexibility — master volume, series FX loop, extra overdrive for those hot “modded” sounds, onboard reverb and a new frequency selective pre-amp topology to facilitate tonal tailoring for specific instruments and musical styles.

This amp is for players who love the classic rock sound of the 60's and the 70's It is very touch sensitive. You can get excellent tones out of this amp! The tone is very warm and fat on both the low and the high dynamic range settings. You can really hear the guitar the strings and the fret board with this amp. So If you use a lot of vibrato in your playing this amp will showcase it very well. This is not a high gain amp. The distortion is more like warm overdrive fuzz type of sound. The kt66 tubes in this amp and the 25 watt

celestions [which are the same speakers in the Jimi Hendrix limited addition Marshall] are what really gives this amp its character. This amp was the perfect choice for me It is what I have been looking for. I have had many high end Fender and Marshall amps as well as boutique amps throughout my career and this amp ranks with the best of them. I currently play custom Fender Stratocasters one I built from parts and the other is a Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Strat they both have Fender custom shop 69 pick ups in them which give me a very warm even tone. I play Gospel Rock Funk and Blues and this amp suits me just fine.

You can check out my tracks at www.myspace.com/fazeblaze The effects I am using are as follows Fender strat-Boss digital tuner-Fulltone Clyde Wah-Prescription Experience Pedal-Z Vex Fuzz Factory-Sweet Sounds Mojo Vibe-Marshall Vintage Modern. I also have a Fulltone GT-500 on order I plan to use it as a clean boost and distortion on the low dynamic range setting. This amp is not noisy at all but you can get some awesome feedback from it also check out Marshall's web site for a video on this amp as well as guitar player magazine.com go to Guitar TV at guitar player.com for a review and video on this amp it will be very helful to you in getting a better understanding of this amp.

This is one of Marshalls new products. This is my second review on this amp. I wanted to clear up a mistake I made on my first review I wrote that this is a two channel amp.

It is not. It is a one channel amp. However the amp comes with a foot-switchable dynamic range.

Which allows you to go from low dynamic range to high dynamic range which also will kick in a substantial volume increase and warm fuzzy overdrive. This amp also has an effects loop in the back as well as a digital reverb that to me is the only negative thing about this amp I really don't use a lot of reverb so its not a big thing to me. I use this amp live and First off let me tell you this. It takes some time getting use to especially If you use a lot of pedals like I do The low dynamic range setting will give you that plexi clean sound the detail and body settings in the pre amp section of the amp allow you to dial in your highs and lows to the over all tone of the Vintage Modern. When you go from low to high dynamic range you get a huge boost in the volume so You have to control the volume from your guitar.

Or you can manually turn down the master volume on your amp. The logical thing is to set up the detail and body and master volume on the low or high depending on which setting you like better and control everything from your guitar volume. I like both the low and the high setting I use them both but I use the low setting more because it is the cleaner setting of the two. I like the 50 watt head it is perfect for me. I have heard that the 100 watt head is worth checking out I am sure it sounds excellent when cranked.

I have had this amp for few months and I have not had any problems with it at all.

The tubes have all held up fine.

I have been playing guitar for 36 years and I have been through so much gear I should be in a 12 step rehab program. My friends call me a gear junky. I am always looking for new sounds and effects I mentioned the effects I use in the last category. I just picked up the Sweet Sound Mojo Vibe based on the reviews I read right hear at harmony central and let me just say this

Thank each and everyone of you who wrote about the Mojo Vibe I sold my Fulltone Deja Vibe to get the Mojo Vibe and the reviews were 100 per cent on point! I love the Mojo Vibe what a difference! Excellent pedal. I still like Fulltone pedals the Deja Vibe is a great pedal. The Mojo Vibe just sounds better. I also picked up a pedal train and a stage magic pedal snake to chain up all my effects. Much better now everything is easier to transport, set up and breaking down is a lot easier now. If the Vintage Modern were stolen? I am not worried about it getting stolen. I got Jesus insurance. This amp has the tone that got me interested in palying the guitar when I was 8 years old that's what I love about this amp. What I do not like about this amp is the digital reverb. I used to own a Fender Vibro King now that amp had some serious reverb! The only thing I wish it had was two separate channels from low to high. I am getting use to controlling everything from the guitar this amp will make you a better player in the long run you just have to work a little harder on your technique. If this amp don't have enough gain for you you can always add gain with a good fuzz overdrive or distortion pedal just remember each one of those pedals have a differn't character in gain and tone.

fazeBlaze (07/17/2007)
Vintage Modern

This amp has the true fat, vintage Marshall sound. Dynamic and with plenty of kick, the vintage modern really captures that classic rock tone. Hopefully I will be able to get one of these soon.

Pretty Tone in Small Package

I've had it for 3 months so far and I love it. I play it at home and I like how I can get overdrive tones w/out playing too loud and make the neighbors mad. The amp has natural overdrive around 10. You only have a volume knob but that one sound you get is pretty sweet. I run a few pedals with it and it sounds great – Keely Java Boost / Tube Screamer / Boss BD2 and they all sound great through it. You can really overdrive it and it gets quite loud.
The only complaint is that the power tube it comes with is crap – it blew out once I started running pedals through it. I had to replace it.

"CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!"

I bought it after quite a bit of research.

There's a few small tube amps out there now. Some people might prefer a particular sound over this one, but this is the coolest, smallest, and it's a Fender.

It's a Fender and I expect to keep it for many years.

I've owned several Fender products and never needed support. That's the way I like it!

"Some good, Some bad, but hey! Its a Gibson, so I expect the best when I buy it , own it , or use it……"

Its a great sounding amp, the looks are better than most give it credit for.

I think the GA40 is a little over priced..most people who play don't have that kind of cash, unless they are making money with their music.
Its a great studio amp, or just playing for fun, and most guys/gals won't spend a $1000-$1150 just have a amp to use for fun….

This is where I fall off with Gibson..For a hand built amp, there should be a higher quality control from the factory. The amp has a double power switch, from about 40% power to 100% called a Triode and Pentode modes of power..It is this switch that is bad, and can cause the amp to blow or short out the tubes at a cost of over 100.00 for tubes alone..
Keep this in mind when useing this switch or buying the amp. ALWAYS set the switch to the desired mode, before powering the amp up..NEVER switch while the amp is on..sometimes even in the stand-by mode will have problems when making the switch.

Yes, I have delt with Gibson, they are great in making amends to problems. A little slow on turn arounds with factory repaires..
The first time I used the " warranty" I ship my GA40 amp to the Cincin, Ohio area for repairs..9 weeks..
Then the amp still wasn't right, so I called Gibson back..They did not give me any problems at all…in fact They gave a brand new bigger and better amp for my problems I went through..the Brand new GA42..thats twin 12" speakers and a great amp I must say…..

Sound quality is very good. i think most people have a hard time with learning how to use it. Since it's a modeling amp you can't do your typical mid scoop that you would do with an analog amp and go off to the races. You actually need to listen to your presets at a variety of volumes to come up with the right tone.

2 X 10's, plenty of power and all the outputs you could ever want. For playing small venues, what more could you want? I honestly think people dislike Behringer because it's inexpensive. I'd be po'd if I just spent over a grand on an amp and the sound was cmparable to a Behringer. I'm not going to say that this has the headroom or dynamics of a 2-10 boogie, but for the proce point of about $250 it comes close enough.

I've had no problems what-so-ever. Nor have the people who recommended the amp to me.

You just absolutely cannot beat this for the price. If you compare it to a $1000 tube amp, it's obviously not going to be where a Boogie rectifier is going to be. But it definitely gets the job done for a whole lot less. So if you're not hung up on brand names and you let your playing do the talking over your gear doing it for you. You can't lose for the $250 price point.

YJ (10/20/2008)

this is my follow up review after trying it out for recording and with my Variax.

GOOD THINGS;

it works well with the variax, being able to setup a preamp bypass patch means the amp turns into a flat eq powered speaker so the variax acoustics will shine through (as will your digitech rpx400 or pod xtl or any other floor based modelling pedal.) – while in bypass mode you still have access to the onboard effects and reverb = very cool!. The Variax also sounds cool through the amp models BTW.

it records well – for home studio use ive found the easiest way is to record it by running a stereo y cable from the Amp's headphone out into the left and right inputs on my card. It sounds alright and also mutes the speaker and you can control the signal level with the master volume ;) you could do the same thing with the unbalanced 1/4 inch or XLR line outs but the speaker isnt muted and the Master volume isnt bypassed – they're for perfomance applications i guess.

Some of the amp models are really, truly beautiful (especially when recorded) the tweeds and blackfaces are really warm and nice.

The reverbs and delays and modulation effects are really nice too – different to other effects ive used, but nice.

It still looks effing cool! jet Black with red LEDs which are shaped like tiny drops of blood – or plectrums ;)

Its a lot of fun!

CONFUSING THINGS;

I cant figure out the purpose of some of the 'configurations': the manual isnt clear = live1 is the default and sounded crappy through the speakers – so i went to Live2 which switched off all the cab emulation – so it sounded cool through the speakers, but crappy when recorded. I want my recorded tones and live tones to be the same – so ive stuck it (and left it) on Studio 1 which sounds ok for both. I also dont understand what UltraG simulation is – the manual doesnt explain well, they said its on the headphones but not on the 1/4 inch line outs – i recorded both and couldnt hear the difference. i may write to behringer and ask them to explain it – or wait for someone to come here after me and do so ;)

BAD THINGS;

some of the hi gain models are a bit samey, and also a bit 'over the top' – you cant complain about a lack of grunt, but sometimes they dont sound very nice.

The noise Gate is a bit brutal in the way it works, its quite simplistic – ive used more subtle noise gates.

you should have a seperate compressor aswell as a seperate reverb, i like the way the modulation effects are set out so you can have delay OR chorus OR chorus AND Delay as individual settings, But you should be able to apply compression to anything you want like the reverb.

The Auto Wah is disgustingly horrible – personal taste i guess.

The plastic components on the interface do not look very sturdy at all.

I cant find the Midi sysex patch software on the Behringer website ;(

switching between completely different amps causes a bit of delay as the V-amp loads all the new information, you have to setup your patches in banks with a little bit of thought to minimise this: keep the same amp on each preset in a bank, make sure it has the same cabinet and reverb type/drive settings. Then any alterations to eq or gain or FX should without the dealy when you switch, i havent tried going from bank to bank yet as i dont have the right foot switch and have to use the buttons ;)

its still cool and still fun but there are one or two things that arent perfect – but what is??

and it only cost me 150 notes so still amazing!

Small and Big

I was looking for a ptactice amp. Then, I went to the guitar shop and found this one… WOW! A little expensive, but it delivers a LOT of tone and is very nice in clean (with my Gibson SG). Maybe I will buy a cab (12'' speaker) to upgrade the ''bass'' feeling, cuz there's some noise when I play with my Big Muff in the stock speaker (6'' special design).
<p>Very nice sound for a 5 watts!
